Engadine cultural mix

Culture and sport—the highlights of the Engadin

Tradition

When history rings through the alleyways

In March, the Engadin celebrates Chalandamarz: Children in blue robes parade through the streets singing, accompanied by the sound of whips and cowbells. Another highlight is the Schlitteda, where couples in traditional Engadin costume ride through the village on richly decorated sledges.

These lively customs give St. Moritz its unmistakable atmosphere. The tradition is complemented by cultural events such as the Engadin Festival or the St. Moritz Art Film Festival, which enrich the town with contemporary accents.

Sports events

Stage for extraordinary competitions

The landscape around St. Moritz offers an impressive backdrop for sporting events of international standing. In addition to winter sports championships, events take place here every year that are almost unique to the Engadin.

In winter, Lake St. Moritz is transformed into a stage of special elegance: noble horses gallop across the ice at the White Turf, historic cars shine at the classic car event The I.C.E., while champagne is served on ice skates.

Delicatessen & Culinary

Regional roots, international flavors

Cuisine in St. Moritz tells stories of regional origins and living tradition. Many products have short distances, while at the same time international classics find their place—finely balanced and prepared with flair.

You can also experience this variety in our restaurants: CORVATSCH serves Swiss specialties, MADE IN ASIA delights with Far Eastern flavors and CARUSO offers Italian classics, including probably the largest selection of pizzas in the region.

Museums & Galleries

Between masterpieces and new visions

St. Moritz has always attracted great thinkers: Friedrich Nietzsche, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilke and Giovanni Segantini found inspiration and peace here. Between museums that preserve history and art and galleries that open up new visions, a lively cultural scene unfolds.

Nowhere else in the Alps is there such a high density of galleries as in St. Moritz and the surrounding area. Here, works by classical masters meet national collections and young talents. A special attraction is the Design Gallery in the Serletta parking garage with its daily changing poster and photo exhibitions.
